What is Scouting

The Scout Section is for boys and girls aged 10½ - 14 years

Young people are welcome to come and join the Scouts. You can join the Troop at 10 and may stay until 15 years old. You can join as a new member or move up from the Cub Scouts.

Scouts meet weekly and are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities. There are a number of Challenges Awards and Activity Badges for the Scouts to take part. There is a programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, Scouting helps encourage and develop their own abilities whilst highlighting the importance of keeping fit, taking part in physical activities such as hiking, orienteering, climbing and watersports. They are provided with opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes Learning outdoor skills is important and time is given over to taking part in both the traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival, cooking as well as the wide range of adventurous activities, ranging from abseiling to boating.

scouts campingInternational events are organised for Scouts to provide an opportunity to meet with fellow Scouts from different countries from around the world. It allows young people to share experiences from different backgrounds and cultures whilst forging new friendships. Many Scouts now travel abroad to the international events during their time in the Section. In 2007 40,000 Scouts from around the World attended the World Jamboree in the UK. The next major event on the calendar is the Jamboree 2010 in America - 100th Anniversary of Scouting.

Chamboree 2010 in Cheshire

Chamboree 2010 will offer hundreds of activities including old favourites and new opportunities to try something different. The activity Zones are being developed with new activities being added all the time, they are designed to offer excitement, interest and challenge with plenty of time to meet and make friends. CUBS

Cubs will be camping for the first weekend of Chamboree and they will be able to experience many of the main Chamboree activities plus a massive additional selection of challenges created exclusively for Cubs.

Beavers

For the first time Chamboree will play host to a Beaver Fun Day on Sunday 1 August.

Jamboree 2011 in Sweden

Jamboree WelcomeThe Jamboree in 2011 will be held at Rinkaby near Kristianstad in Sweden. The 22nd World Scout Jamboree has a theme of 'simply scouting'. In fact, the 22nd World Scout Jamboree Sweden 2011 is Simply Scouting !  Jamboree 2011
